Het project dat wij, vijf geëngageerde jongeren, opzetten werkt rond het concept van een rondtrekkende 'cinema'. Met een projector, een laptop en een scherm zullen we tien weken rondtrekken door Rwanda.
Gedurende deze periode zullen we authentieke Rwandese films vertonen aan de jongeren van plaatselijke gemeenschappen. De thema's die in deze films aan bod komen moeten de toeschouwers, en in het bijzonder jongeren, aanzetten om persoonlijke verhalen met ons te delen. Een selectie hiervan zullen we optekenen en bundelen. Naast deze getuigenissen zullen we samen met deze jongeren eenvoudige animatiefilmpjes maken over hun persoonlijke ervaringen, die door het bekijken van de film worden opgeroepen. Voor de inhoudelijke aspecten in verband met de films kunnen we rekenen steun van het Rwanda Cinema Centre en het Rwanda Film Institute.
Met het organiseren van filmvertoningen in rurale gemeenschappen willen we verschillende doelstellingen bereiken. Vooraleerst willen we jongeren in de Rwandese dorpen een leuke avond bezorgen. Door de afwezigheid van elektriciteit in de meeste huishoudens is er voor de jongeren weinig meer te beleven eenmaal de duisternis ingevallen is. Daarnaast moeten deze films de Rwandese jongeren, op een informele manier, een breder inzicht geven in de geschiedenis van hun land. Ten laatste stellen wij dat dit project ons referentiekader moet verruimen, Een uitgebreidere beschrijving van de doelstellingen kan teruggevonden worden in het volgende hoofdstuk.
Na onze terugkomst zullen de opgetekende verhalen samen met foto’s gepubliceerd worden. Geaccentueerd met enkele filmpjes zal het geheel achteraf tentoongesteld worden. Deze tentoonstelling, die zich richt tot jongeren, heeft als doel een inzicht te verschaffen in het leven en ervaringen van jongeren in een ander continent. Eveneens moet de expositie kunnen uitnodigen tot een reflectie over onze eigen samenleving. Voor de praktische gegevens met betrekking tot deze exposities verwijzen wij naar verder in deze projectmap.
Een goed project start met een intensieve voorbereiding. Daarom is een praktische en inhoudelijke voorbereiding reeds hier in België erg belangrijk. Het inhoudelijke aspect doelt op het verzamelen van informatie over Rwanda, haar inwoners en haar geschiedenis. Deze informatie wordt gegenereerd via boeken, gesprekken,films maar ook door het participeren aan sociaal-culturele activiteiten van de Rwandese gemeenschap in België.

Our project
The project that we, five committed young people, want to organise is based on the concept of a 'mobile cinema'. With a projector, a laptop, audio-material and a big screen we will travel for ten weeks through Rwanda. During this period we will show authentic Rwandan films to young people in local communities. We hope the themes adressed in these Rwandese films will encourage the spectators to share personal stories with us. A selection of these personal stories will be presented in a 'mobile exhibition' in Belgium. We collaborate closely with the Rwanda Cinema Centre and the Rwanda Film Institute.
With organizing film screenings in rural community's we target different goals. First, we want to provide especially young people in the Rwandan villages a fun evening. With the absence of electricity in most households, there is little to do for young people once darkness has fallen. In addition, these authentic Rwandan movies will give youth the opportunity to watch a movie for the first time in their lives on a very big screen and it will, in an informal way, broaden their insight into their country. Finally, we hope that this project will broaden our vision on the world. After our return, the recorded stories with photos will be published and exhibited. This exhibition, which also aims to young people, has the goal to provide insight into the life and experiences of young people in a different continent. Similarly, the exhibition may invite on a reflection on our society.

A good project starts with an intensive preparation. Therefore, a good practical and substentive preparation here in Belgium is very important. The substantive aspect refers to the collection of information about Rwanda, its people and history. This information is generated through books, interviews, films, but also by participating in socio-cultural activities of the Rwandan community in Belgium.
