we have now been in Rwanda for 6 days. We have found a house to stay in no one has gotten sick yet, so everything is well! Tonight we are going to have our first screening in a city by lake Kivu. We have also managed to establish a few contacts which will help us with future screenings.
our impressions so far are many and quite positive. People are very friendly and socialize on the streets which makes a lively atmosphere. Quite a few people speak french and english, something which gives us the opportunity to communicate with the locals. Concerning food the popular dish within the group is grilled meat on a stick (Brochettes) and french fries. We eat more fries here than back in Europe. The fruits are delicious and the beer is fairly good. The local beers we have tried so far are primus and turbo (the brand of a man). Public transport is our manner of moving around the country. It is cheap and good and takes you through the hilly landscape of Rwanda. The roads are suprisingly good though the speed and traffic customs are a bit different then at home. These days it are the chinese that are working on the new roads here. Yesterday we drove on an almost finished road and could see the chinese companies in action. Rwanda is an agricultural society. Almost all families depend on a piece of land where they grow or they have banana trees, sorghum, sugar cains and the like. when you drive through the country you see plots of land covering each and every hill, and you see whole villages working on their land, taking naps now and then, eating and fetching water.
So far our first impressions, despite the very slow internet we try to keep you posted as much as possible!
Super leuk om dit te lezen en zo te kunnen meevolgen!! veel succes! Elise
